Mexican Independence Day is September 16 — NOT May 5!

On Sept. 16, 1810, priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla delivered the “Grito de Dolores,” a fiery speech that launched the 11-year struggle to end Spanish colonial rule. That date is celebrated as Mexican Independence Day...though some Americans might think that's what Cinco de Mayo is for. Andi Resendiz explains the difference.
